Richmondville – Joan A. Effner, 61, passed away peacefully at her sister's home on October 9, 2021 with her loving family by her side, after a 10-year long battle with cancer.
She was born August 2, 1960 in Oneonta, the daughter of Alonzo and Alice (Merwin) Morrell.
She married Kenneth Effner on August 20, 1984.
Joanie was a volunteer at the Richmondville Emergency Squad and was proud to have participated in the Special Olympics. She was funny, kind and had a big heart. She loved her family, her many friends and everyone she met. Her Family Tree was very important to her, having worked on it for decades.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Effner; son, James Effner; grandson, Anthony; siblings, Ada (Richard) Murphy, Mary (Harry) Rode, Charlie Morrell, and Patricia Knapp; step-father, Jim Morrell Jr.; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Boots and Alice Morrell.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the funeral service at Noon, Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street, Worcester. The Rev. Alan Miller will be officiating. Please wear a mask.
Burial will follow at the Richmondville Cemetery.
