Obituary

North Franklin – John "Jack" Barrett, 80, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 15, 2009.

He was born March 10, 1929 in Jersey City, the son of John and Marie (Burns) Barrett.

Jack married Etta Thies on January 9, 1949 in Brooklyn.

He was a United States Marine Corps veteran serving form 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict and obtained the rank of Corporal.

He grew up in Jersey City, spending the majority of his life in Massapequa, and retiring to North Franklin.

Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening; although one of his greatest enjoyments were spending time with his grandchildren and "the great ones" his beloved great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Etta Barrett of North Franklin; his children, Kathy Barrett of Franklin, Jim Barrett of Bethpage and John Barrett of Astoria; his grandchildren, Dawn (Bruce) Bookhout, Michael Rosenbusch, Anne Marie Barrett, Melissa Rosenbusch, Megan (Bryan) Wilton, Jim Barrett Jr., and John Barrett Jr.; his great-grandchildren, Brittany Barrett, Travis Bookhout, Alyson Bookhout, Desiree Rosenbusch, Tara Bookhout, Sara Rosenbusch, and Colin Hamm; a brother, Bill (Marie) Barrett of New Jersey.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Edith, and his granddaughter Jennifer Lee Barrett.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta, from 1 p.m. to service at 3 p.m, with Allison Jay Bookhout, the Spiritual Care Coordinator, Catskill Area Hospice, officiating.
