Cobleskill – John J. Bennett, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 2, 2026, at Albany Medical Center.
He was born April 17, 1941, in Manhattan, the son of Joseph and Antonina (Boska) Bennett. John was raised in College Point and received an associate's degree from Queensborough Community College. He was a United States Navy veteran.
John worked for the Brooklyn Naval Yard and later worked at Bell Atlantic and New York Telephone Co., eventually retiring from Verizon as a repair technician. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time with his wife and family out on the ocean.
He is survived by his wife, Diana (Ferdula) Bennett, whom he married on March 2, 1974, at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Flushing; daughters, Jennifer (Steven) Beardsley and Diana Ann (Joseph) Madigan; grandchildren, Joseph, Bennett, Jack, Stella, Emma, and Carlin; a dear friend, Richard Nolan; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his son, John Bennett.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester, NY, with the Rev. Joseph Arockiasamy officiating. Calling hours and visitation will continue at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The committal service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 1, at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Worcester.
