John E. Downin's Obituary
ONEONTA – John E. Downin, 83, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born July 27, 1931 in Sidney Center, the son of Harry and Ruth (Dodge) Downin.
John served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and obtained the rank of Sergeant.
John married Lois H. Riese. He worked as private duty nurse.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Downin; sons, Dale and Joan Downin of Franklin and Chris and Penny Downin of Franklin; step-children, Harold and Annette Southworth of Worcester, Pam and Jim McCoy of Worcester and Penny Southworth and Guy Hults of Oneonta; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and special niece, Kathy (Downin) Williams of Sidney.
He was predeceased by his parents, and three brothers, Dave, Charles and Harry Downin.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. There will be a short prayer service at 7 p.m.
Donations may be made to the SSPCA, 4841 State Highway 28, Cooperstown, NY 13328.
