ONEONTA – John C. Hawver, 65, passed away suddenly at home on June 26, 2014.

He was born May 21, 1949 in Oneonta, the son of Donald H. and Frances J. (Skellie) Hawver.

John was a United States Navy veteran serving during Vietnam from 1969 to 1974.

He married Paula Robertson on August 8, 1981 at their home in Oneonta.

He was at one time a member of C.H. Graham Hose Co in Schenevus and the DAV. John enjoyed driving his mini horses, shooting and collecting guns, hunting and reviewing his daily finds on all his trial cameras.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Hawver of Oneonta; son, Jason and Stephanie Hawver of Texas; grandchildren, Phoebe, Walter and Daphne; a daughter, Alison Hawver of Texas; siblings, Edward and Patti Hawver of Schenevus, Donna and Vic Hanson of Schenevus, June and Rodney Preston of Worcester, and Amy and Steve Fancher of Worcester; a special niece, Karen and Ed Knickerbocker and several aunts, nieces and nephews and cousins; as well as numerous close friends.

John was predeceased by his father and mother and a brother Steven.

John had recently had a double lung transplant and heart bypass surgery Nov. 2013 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA and was thankful to get a second chance at a life he enjoyed and determined not to waste any of it. There will be no calling hours or services per Johns request but there will be a celebration of his life that will be held at a later date.
