Obituary

WORCESTER – John Edwin Hollenbeck, 83, passed away suddenly Monday, December 3, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.


He was born September 17, 1929 in Worcester, the son of Edwin W. and Gladys (Knapp) Hollenbeck.


John attended the Worcester Central School. He was a water boy for the Rail Road in Schenectady at the age of 16. As a young man he worked in the circus as a snake charmer. John was employed at General Electric in Schenectady for 38 ½ years.


He was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954.


John married June Damiano on November 8, 1957 in East Worcester.


He was a life member of the VFW Post 2752. He enjoyed family life and also hunting, fishing, bingo and his friends, especially his friends on the hill. John and his family was very thankful for his niece Nancy and nephew Richard, who was always there for him.

He is survived by his wife, June Hollenbeck of Worcester; a daughter, Gloria and husband, Roger Lott of Richmondville; a sister, Marguerite and husband, Carl Hughes of Milford; a brother, Lorenzo Hollenbeck of Palatine; and many nieces and nephews.


He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Jane Horton; and two brothers, Willard and Kerrie Hollenbeck.


Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at the E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel, in Worcester.


The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday December 8th, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Judith Thistle, officiating.


Interment with Military honors will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.
