Schenevus – John Charles Hults, 83, passed away at home on November 4, 2023.

He was born August 21, 1940 in Oceanside, NY, the son of Harry F. Hults, Sr. and Sophie (Strogney) Hults.

John was a United States Navy veteran serving during Vietnam 1963-1967.  He was stationed in the Mediterranean.

John grew up in Lakeview Rockville Center.  He married Elizabeth Rizzo in 1970.  Together they moved to Laurens, than to Otego and eventually settled in Schenevus.

John was an auto body mechanic working with his brothers, Ralph and George both from Laurens.  At one time he also was employed at American Spinning and retired from Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, where he worked in Housekeeping.

John always had a joke, just one would get him started for many more to come.  His favorite pastime was listening to the grass to grow so he could mow it again.

He is survived by his wife, Liz Hults; daughter, Dawn (Christopher) Ducey; a grandson, Noah Ducey; a sister, Janet Scherbert; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his siblings, Ruth, Harry, Ralph, Mary, Frank, and George.

A celebration will be held at a later date.
