Morris  – John J. Emmett, 83, passed away November 23, 2023 at A.O. Fox Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born August 5, 1940 in Tampa Florida, the son of John J. Emmett Sr. and Carrie (Richards) Emmett.

Jack was a Police Officer at SUNY Oneonta from 1966 retiring in 1995. He also worked part-time for the Oneonta Police Department and the New York State Parks Police.

Jack was a life member working for over 25 years at the Oneonta Fire Department.  He was the first elected CSEA Union President at SUNY Oneonta and at one time, he was the President of the Local #1792 University Police Department. He served as a board member on the Council 82 Union AFL-CIO at Albany, and for the Town of Edmeston was on the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman. He appreciated all the help at the family camp.  He had many fond memories of the camp company and enjoyed all the fun with the boys.

He made life-long friends wherever he went and will be dearly remembered and sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife, Jean S. (Leonard) Emmett whom he married in 1989 at their home; also, his children, Lynn Fish, Ronnie Emmett, Gary and wife, Virginia Emmett, Shelly Emmett, Rebecca Emmett; son-in-law, Bill Graves; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; son, Jeff Boschetti; daughter, Bridget Graves; son-in-law, Louie Fish; daughter-in-law, Laura Emmett; his siblings, Ronald Pidgeon, Gerald Pidgeon, Joyce Molatch, and Gordon Emmett.

A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.  A reception will follow at the 6th Ward Athletic club, 22 W Broadway, Oneonta.
