WORCESTER – John (Jack) R. Miller, 89, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2017 in Manatee Hospital in Bradenton, FL.

Born on July 18, 1928 in Worcester, NY, he was the youngest child of Harry and Adeline Miller.

Jack attended Worcester Central School, and at the age of 17 left to join the United States Navy. After 6 years of service, he returned to Worcester to seek employment.  Jack delivered milk for Mountain Dairy and oil for Head Oil Co, and for many years, worked for General Electric in Schenectady.

On November 9, 1957 Jack married Ardith (Ardy) Lawyer. Together, they built and ran Ardy's Dairy Bar in Worcester, and for several years extended their business in the former Pyramid Mall in Oneonta.  After closing Ardy's in the mall, Jack renovated and converted the original business into a restaurant that became a hub for all the locals.  Upon retiring from Ardy', Jack drove school bus for Worcester Central School.

His wife passed away on March 30, 1996, and a few years later, he made Bradenton, FL his winter residence. Jack enjoyed playing softball (pitcher), poker games, camping at Titus Lake and was an avid golfer.  A devoted family man he thought the world of his children and grandchildren, and attended all events they performed or participated in.

Besides his wife, Jack was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Gert, Emma, Freddy and Frances.

He is survived by his children, Dave (Karen) Miller of Worcester and Kelly Micha and her partner, Frank Goronsky of Stamford; grandchildren, Mavrick and Torr Micha, and Sarah, Andrew and Erik Miller, several nieces and nephews, and a good friend, Betty Wolfe.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, December 15, at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester.

The funeral service will be 3 p.m., Saturday, December 16, at the United Methodist Church, 48 Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Daniel Martin, pastor, officiating.

The interment with military honors will be 1 p.m., Sunday, December 17, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.
