Obituary

ONEONTA – John V. Russell, 63, of Oneonta, passed away April 5, 2013 at the Otsego Manor, Cooperstown.

Born December 15, 1949 in Cooperstown, John was the son of G. Vaughan and Bertha L. Russell. A graduate of Oneonta High School, Union University, Albany College of Pharmacy, he then attended the University of Cincinnati Medical Center receiving a Doctorate of Pharmacy upon graduation.

John worked for many years in hospitals and pharmacy's serving in positions as Clinical, Supervising, and Staff Pharmacist. John was a dedicated person ever striving to improve conditions and learning new techniques. He presented professional presentations in the area of Hyperailementation and Parenteral Nutrition of which he was especially interested.

John received awards including Professional Awards from Rho Chi Honorary Pharmaceutical Society from his professional organization memberships. Memberships in the American Pharmaceutical Association, American Society of Healthcare Systems Pharmacists, American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and European Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.

John was involved in the Saturday's Bread Soup Kitchen as a founding member and received the Apron Award for his dedication and support. He was also a founding member of the Habitat For Humanity in the Otsego County Chapter and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, serving as a member of the Sanctuary Choirs, Patrick Ministries Committee, Mission Commission, Lay Leadership Committee and the Administrative Board.

John is survived by his brother, Gerald T. Russell of Oneonta; cousins, Edwin Russell, state of Washington, Paul Russell, Ohio, Shirley Wright, Rome, NY, Martha Titus, Florida, and Sonia Hall, Vermont.

A celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Teressa Sivers, pastor, officiating. Inurnment will follow at the church.
