Obituary

Elk Creek – John Charles Scott, 70, passed away unexpectedly at home on July 22, 2020.

He was born August 16, 1949 in Oneonta, the son of Vernon and Bernice (Ritchey) Scott.

John was a proud American.  He left high school and enlisted in 1967 into the United States Marine Corps.  He served during the Vietnam War, until 1969 when he was wounded in action.  John was a Machine Gunner and Proof Dir. Small Arms.  He obtained the rank of Lieutenant Corporal and was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with device, Presidential Unit Citation, Purple Heart Medal and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.

John loved all things American, especially Eagles and The American Flag.  He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and gardening.  He was known for his cooking, his famous sauce and lottery tickets.  John's biggest joy in his life were his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Dezeree (Dave) Wakin of Delhi, John Scott (Denise Yager) of Morris, and Jesse (Amanda) Scott of Treadwell; grandchildren, Mercedes, Olivia, Sophia, Cadence, Jerry, Nancy, Max, Noah, Gabriella, and Parker; his brothers, Eddie (Mary) Macie, Dennis Macie, Eugene (Mary) Scott, Steve (Liz) Scott, and Doug Scott; cousin, Dawn (Steve) Dixon and sons, Steven and Scott; close friends, John Murin and Donna Jahnke; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Dennis.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester.  Due to current restrictions please come prepared to possibly wait to enter the funeral home, maintain social distancing and wear a face covering.

Burial with military honors will be at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
