January 30, 1949 – March 29, 2020
Jon passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and dear friends. Like all his many health challenges, Jon faced his latest obstacle with bravery and dignity. A special thank-you for the compassion provided by the Helios nurse Brandi and home health aides Jamie, Melanie and Starr. A special thanks to Roy and Chris Althiser for their love and support.
Jon was born January 30, 1949 in Herkimer to the late Francis "Shy" and Natalie (Robbins) Karker.
He graduated from Richfield Springs Central School class of 1967 and from SUNY Morrisville class of 1969. In 1970 Jon attended the U.S. Army Military Police School at Fort Gordon, GA. He was honorably discharged after 6 years of service. In 1972 he became a NYS Environmental Conservation Officer which he proudly served for 29 plus years. Jon also owned and operated Karker Enterprises.
On October 9, 1976 he married the former Linda Ten Eyck who survives him.
Jon is survived by his brother Jeff (Karen) Karker of Cazenovia, his sister Sandy (Bill) Metcalf of Florida, sister's-in-law, Jean Patton of Kingston and Janet Ten Eyck of California. Jon is survived by his nephew, Nicholas Karker of Albany and niece Michelle Karker of Michigan, nephews Stephen (Nancy) Patton of California, Michael (Eileen) Ten Eyck of Westford, nieces, Lori (Chris) Lehenbauer of Worcester, Michelle (Kurt) Osiander of California, also 3 great-nephews Scott and Timothy Lehenbauer of Worcester and Tyler Patton of California and 1 great -great nephew Tristian Patton of California.
He was predeceased by 2 brother's-in-law, Donald and Richard Ten Eyck.
Jon was a former member and commissioner of the Worcester Fire Department. He was instrumental in establishing the Worcester Fireman's Explorer Post. Jon was also a member and captain of the Worcester Emergency Squad.
He was a proud member and past president of the Sharon Pathfinders Snowmobile Club.
Jon was proudest of his title; Chairman of the Worcester Inn Saturday morning Knights of the Roundtable coffee Klatch.
Due to the COVID-19 virus protocol, a celebration of Jon's Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jon's name may be made to the Physical Therapy Department at Cobleskill Regional Hospital, 178 Grandview Drive, Cobleskill, NY 12043 or Helios Care, 297 River Street Service Road, Oneonta, NY 13820.
