ONEONTA – Jonathan S. Glazer, 57, passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, after a long struggle with cancer.
He was born November 11, 1953 in Havre de Grace, MD, the son of Jacob and Ruth (Hathaway) Glazer.
He was a United States Navy veteran, serving from 1979 to 1983 as a Hospital Corpsman.
He married Carol Thomas in June of 1994 in Oneonta.
Jonathan was proud to work at the Rehabilitation Support Services (RSS) Warm Line in Oneonta, where he has worked since its inception. Prior to his illness, he served as supervisor of the Warm Line and was a dedicated advocate for the mentally ill. He loved to read and was self-publishing a handbook for coping day-to-day with mental illness at the time of his death.
Jonathan was an avid musician with an encyclopedic knowledge of rock history that he loved to share with friends. He enjoyed playing the bass guitar and keyboards and singing in numerous rock bands. He also sang in the choir at the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta for many years.
He is survived by his son, David Bucy of Oneonta; his wife, Carol Thomas of Concord, NH; his brother, Charlie Glazer of Lebanon, NH; nieces and a nephew, Shannon Glazer, Adrienne Salvagni and Christopher Glazer; his beloved cats, Rusty and Fidget; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m., Monday, September 19, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Teressa Sivers, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment at a family cemetery will be held privately at a later date.
