JOSEF SCHMIDT
MARYLAND – Josef Schmidt, 70, died suddenly on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at home.
He was the son of the late John and Maria Schmidt. Josef immigrated to the United States in December of 1956.
In February 1961 he married his beloved Helma.
Josef worked as a machinist for several years and became a partner of the firm for 10 years.
They lived in Ridgewood, Queens until 1974, when he, his wife and three children moved to their summer home in Maryland permanently.
Josef was employed at Astrocom Electronics Inc in Colliersville as a mold maker, and has worked there for 32 years.
For many years he belonged to the Green Mountain Hunting Club in Ridgewood, Queens. He was also a member of St. Mary's/St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helma; a daughter, Monica and her husband, Curt Johns and their three daughters, Rebecca Anne, Sarah Elizabeth and Danielle Marie from Fayetteville, NY; a son, John and his wife, Debi and their two sons, James Josef and Jenkin John from Ballston Spa; a son, Steven and his wife, Lisa from Cooperstown; three sister, Frieda, Magdelena and Erna; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Josef loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed his job and the outdoors and spent the last few days doing what he loved. He was known for his smile and will be missed by everyone.
Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 22, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Walnut Street, Oneonta, with the associate pastor the Rev. Victor Owan at St. Mary's Church and the Rev. Edward Golding, pastor at St. Mary's/St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Worcester, as co-celebrants.
Interment will be follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.
