Oneonta
Joseph J. "Sonny" Pizza, 90, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014 at his residence.
He was born on January 5, 1924 in Oneonta; the son of Joseph and Catherine (Deambrosine) Pizza.
Joe married Beatrice Yager on September 5, 1943 at St. Mary's Church in Oneonta.
He was a lifelong area resident who worked as a machinist for the D& H Railroad in for 43 years.
Sonny was a lifetime member of the Oneonta Elks Club and an avid golfer.
Joe is survived by his grandson, Brett Pizza and his wife, Hannah of Sharon Springs; 2 great grandsons, Griffin and Joseph Pizza of Sharon Springs; his sister, Veronica Nelson of Oneonta and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife and his 2 sons, Jerry and Tom Pizza.
A private graveside service will be held at the Mount Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Joe to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.
