Obituary

DAVENPORT CENTER - Mr. Joseph M. Lombardo, 63, went home to our Lord, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, on Saturday, November 13, 2010. He passed away at home with his loved ones at his side.

Joe was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 22, 1946, the son of Frank and Lena (Ruggiani) Lombardo.

On May 15, 1965 Joe was joined in holy matrimony to Yvonne Marie Hone at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, NY. Joe and Yvonne shared a very loving and devoted marriage of over 45 years. Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne; his two dearly loved daughters, Bobbi-Lynn (Kurt) Palmer of Anchorage, Alaska, Gina (Chris) Schermerhorn of Munnsville, NY; six beloved grandchildren, Dennis Allen, Autumn Allen, Jessakka Schermerhorn, Christopher Schermerhorn, II, Zachary Joseph Schermerhorn, Mathieu Schermerhorn; three brothers and sisters-in-law, all of Schenevus, NY, Frank and Madeline Lombardo, Charles and Dorothy Lombardo, Anthony and Rose Lombardo; several nieces, nephews and many friends. Joe was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Benedict, a brother, Joseph, a sister, Francis and a nephew, Benedict.

Joe always put his family's needs before his own. He worked numerous years and many long hours to provide for his family. He was an exceedingly loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Joe enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter, NRA Life member, NYS Hunter Safety Instructor, previous Town Constable, and a Boy Scout Master. Joe took pleasure in his CB radio days having the handle of Canarsie Kid; honoring the place he spent his boyhood days. He was also a member of the Pindars Corners Volunteer Fire Department, where he had served as First Assistant Chief. Joe was employed by SUNY Oneonta as Locksmith retiring after 30 years of service in 1998.

Being a family man, Joe took great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren, especially driving his tractors, helping on the farm and attending auctions. He loved all his animals, especially his dog, Bruce.

Joe was always ready and willing to assist others whether it was family, friends or strangers. Frequently, he would be there to help folks who were down on there luck.

Keeping with Joe's wishes, there will be no calling hours and a private Christian burial at the family's convenience. He will be laid to rest at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta, NY.
