Oneonta - Joseph C. Sperry, 59, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024 at his residence with his loving wife and daughter by his side.

He was born on February 23, 1965 in Fayetteville, NC.

Joe married Dawn Bryden on April 14, 1990 at the Hartwick College Chapel.

He was a lifelong area resident who was employed at Five Star Subaru in Oneonta for many years.

Joe was a member of the 6th Ward Athletic Club where he participated in the dart league.  He also competed at the Oneonta Sportsmen's Club in the Rifle & Pistol League.

In his younger years he was an avid golfer and bowler who also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Joe was a Miami Dolphins and New York Mets fan who enjoyed playing craps at Turning Stone Casino, riding his Spyder motorcycle, and playing cornhole with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn and his daughter, Krista Sperry of Oneonta.  He is also survived by his mother, Sandra Swift and sister, Michele Jones of Oneonta, his brother, Aaron Swift and his wife, Terrie of California, as well as his incredible neighbors Nils and Maryann Anderson.  In addition, Joe is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Joe was predeceased by both of his fathers, Roger Sperry and Gary Swift.

A celebration of Joe's life will be August 18 at the Oneonta Elks Club, Chestnut St., Oneonta.  Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Starting 2:30 p.m. all are welcome to share a story or remembrance about Joe.  Live music will follow from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
