Oneonta – Karnes 'Bub' A. Niles, 87, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully on April 18, 2024 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
He was born at home on October 17, 1936 in Oneonta, the son of Karnes 'Buster' and Mary (Piper) Niles.
Karnes graduated from Oneonta High School with the class of 1955, where he once was a record holding, captain of the track team. He proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1962.
Karnes was employed with Amphenol as an electroplater for 41 years. He was a lifetime member of the Oneonta Elks Club 1312 and enjoyed a passion for cars, HO trains, hunting and The Cape.
Rosalyn Kellogg lived just two houses from Karnes. Growing up together, they became the love of each other's lives. They married on January 23, 1960 in Oneonta, sharing nearly 64 years together. Bub was Roz's "Hero" and they were each other's whole world. Together they treasured the life they had made with their daughters, grandchildren, family, and many friends who were an extension of their family. It was an honor to be one of "Bubby's girls."
He is survived by two daughters, Natali and Bill West and Leanne Niles McCormack and Michael Murphy; four grandchildren, Kerri and Mark Lann, Kyle and Michael Beckley-Abourizk, Erik Beckley and Kerrie DeLiberis and Courtney West and Joelle Byrne; two great-grandchildren, Steven and Matthew Lann; niece and nephew, Linda Wheeler and Paul Thayer.
