Katherine B. Sloan's Obituary
ONEONTA - Katherine B. Sloan, 100, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Oneonta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born October 11, 1909 in Gilboa, the daughter of Luther and Jennie (Carl) Hastings.
Katherine married Roy K. Sloan on May 28, 1930.
She was a life long and very active member of the North Kortright Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her many years of volunteering at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, where she was a life member of the Fox Auxiliary.
In 1975 she moved from North Kortright to Oneonta, and 4 ½ years ago became a resident of the Oneonta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. On behalf of the Sloan Family, a special thank you to all of the nursing home staff for the kindness, loving care and friendship so freely given to our mother. Her family also extends gratitude beyond measure to the Rev. Carol Wilson who gave her so much love and joy.
Katherine is survived by her 3 sons, Alan and Nancy Sloan of Stuart, FL, Bruce and Jane Sloan of Oneonta, and Robert and Alice Sloan of Oneonta; two daughters, Janice Ballard of Oneonta, and Barbara and George Stoehr of Oneonta; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roy on January 31, 1977; an infant daughter, Shirley; two sisters, Marjorie Frazee and Aurilla Scutt; a brother, Carl Hastings, and a son-in-law, Rodney Ballard.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.
The funeral service will be Monday, July 12, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the North Kortright Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Carol Wilson, pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow at the North Kortright Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, Davenport, NY 13750 or the North Kortright Cemetery Association, 115 Underpass Road, Davenport, NY 13750.
