Obituary

On Thursday, September 16, 2021, another angel gained their wings. Kathleen "Kathy" E. Wayman of South Valley and formerly of Worcester passed away.

As her friends and family have described her, Kathy always had a smile on her face and was kind to everyone, a good friend, although she did have a lot of witt and a don't take diddly-squat attitude.

In her younger years Kathy enjoyed barrel racing at Paradise Ranch Rodeo in Caroga Lake with her family and friends. As she got older, she enjoyed trail riding on her mule Betsey with her daughter, son-in-law, granddaughters and significant other.  Many times, you would find them camping at Otter Creek or Brookfield.  Kathy was always up for an adventure and was not the sit at home type.  Every weekend local family trips were usually involved.  She also enjoyed going to horse auctions, tack shops, and anything that had to do with her grandkids.  Often times you would hear her yelling on the sidelines during soccer games.

Kathy was also known for her homemade cakes and cake decorating that she did for several special occasions. Kathy made a special cake and or cupcake with a theme of their choice for Chey and Abby's birthdays every year.  Although you may not have wanted to be in the house while she worked on them, they always came out beautiful.

Kathy could also sew or crochet about anything. She made several blankets, sweaters, slippers, scarves and mittens over the years.  All she used to have to go by often times was just a picture and she would recreate it.

Kathy spent several years volunteering with the Worcester Emergency Squad and spent some time as treasurer. During that time, she also helped with some basic EMT classes in Cooperstown.

Kathy worked as a secretary for the Town of Richmondville and recently in the call center at Bassett Medical Center. Kathy is mostly known for her time at Chase Chevrolet in Worcester working in the office.

Kathleen is survived by her pride and joy, her only daughter, Katherine "Katie" Rifenbark; her two granddaughters, Cheyenne E. Rifenbark and Abbagail R. Rifenbark and her son-in-law, Christopher "Chris" Rifenbark. Kathy is also survived by her significant other of several years, Thomas Young.  Kathy adopted Tom's kids and grandkids as her own and is also survived by them, Nicole Field, Ella Field, Court Young, Michaela Bliss, Wyatt Young, and Weston Young.  Kathy's sister, Diane Greer and brother, Roy (Joan) Strouse are also survivors.  Kathy is also survived by nieces, nephews, friends, family and co-workers.

Kathy's final wishes were to not have any services, but the family will plan a memorial on her behalf in the future.

Arrangements are entrusted with Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester; www.hellerskinnerfh.com
