MARYLAND – Kenneth E. Shaw Jr., 59, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born February 2, 1950, in the Bronx, the son of Kenneth E. Shaw Sr. and Dorothy Huested. He spent part of his early life in Greenville, Ohio, and returned to Smithtown, New York.
Ken was a United States Army veteran serving in Vietnam and obtained the rank of Sergeant.
He married Grace Greene on April 24, 1984, in Bay Shore.
While living on Long Island, Ken worked for R&G Brenner, where he managed a tax office. Upon moving to the Oneonta area, he and his wife, Grace, owned and operated the Redwood Motel in Colliersville. He was also a self employed accountant.
Ken really treasured being a grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid sports fan and history buff, and was a member of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Shaw of Maryland; a son, William R. Greene and wife, Pamela and their sons, Cameron and Alexander; a daughter, Beverly Hallock and husband, Garrett of Ronkonkoma, and their children, Alexandra and Logan; a son, Brian Greene of Maryland; a brother, Stephen Shaw and wife, Carolyn, of Ridge; a sister, Linda Brower of Cohoes; special foster parents, Jim and June Strobel of Greenville, OH.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Carol Cunningham.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.
On Friday, January 22, 2010 calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Hale & Lynch Funeral Home, 691 Middle Country Road, Middle Island, NY. The interment with military honors will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
