Lawrence M. "Pop" Hoffman, 74, of Portlandville, NY died peacefully at his home on March 2, 2010 with his family by his side.
Mr. Hoffman, the son of Lawrence and Inez Hoffman, was born in Brooklyn, and was a resident of Portlandville since 1969.
He was joined in marriage to his wife, Louise, January 19, 1957 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Louise predeceased him on December 31, 2006.
Larry was a police officer with the 7th Precinct in Manhattan for 25 years.
He was a member of the Otsego Masonic Lodge #138 F&AM. Larry was an avid bird watcher and chipmunk feeder. He loved western movies while enjoying a nice cup of coffee.
Mr. Hoffman is survived by his eight children, 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Lawrence and Theresa Hoffman and their children, Lewis, Lauren and Lawrence of Kissimmee, Fla; Thomas Hoffman of Wells Bridge; Louise and Brian Rice and their daughters, Stephanie of Staten Island, Elizabeth Attanasio and her husband, Gregg and their son, Louis James of Staten Island, and Samantha Terra and her husband, Dominick of Staten Island; John and Cheryl Hoffman and their sons, Johnathan and Anthony of Milford; Joseph and Glenda Hoffman and their children, Nicole and Jason of Brooklyn; Inez and Derick Brunell and their twin daughters, Amanda and Carley and triplets, Lindsey, Emily and Micala of Orlando, Fla.; Elaine and Chris Ranc and their children, Christopher, Anton, William and Victoria of Voorheesville; Erika Aho and her best friend and fiancé, Doug Ives and her children, Tonya, Alexander and Joseph of Portlandville; his brothers, John and Joe; his sisters, Charolette, Inez and Christina; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his two beloved watch dogs, Lulu and Taffy II.
Calling hours will be held at the Lewis Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta on Sunday, March 7, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday, March 8, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held during Sunday's calling hours at 5:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Benintende, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating.
