WORCESTER – Lawrence R. Schmiedel, 58, passed away October 9, 2020 unexpectedly at Albany Medical Center.

He was born August 19, 1962 in Cobleskill, the son of Robert and Janet (Decker) Schmiedel.

Larry graduated from Worcester Central School, Class of 1981 and SUNY Delhi with a degree in plumbing and electric.

He married Michelle Zimmerman on July 9, 1989 at the Worcester United Methodist Church.

Larry was employed by Welding and Brazing Services and also owned Schmiedel Enterprise working on plumbing and heating, and doing a variety of other repairs.

Larry had a big heart.  He was an avid outdoorsman and could be found in the woods. He loved working with children.  He was a little league coach, a mentor to many, and taught hunter safety.  He was willing to help others, and did so even at his death being an organ donor.   He was a member of the East Worcester Fire Department.

Larry was the best "PaPa" in the world.  He is survived by his children, Crystle Schmiedel of North Carolina and Brandon (Kasandra) Schmiedel of Worcester; their mother, Michelle Zimmerman; his beloved grandsons, Jackson and Jameson Schmiedel; siblings, James (Jane) Schmiedel, Barbara Garcia, and Christopher Schmiedel; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester, with the Rev. Judith Thistle officiating.  All in attendance must wear a face cover, maintain social distancing and please bring a chair if you need one.
