ONEONTA – Leland A. Oliver, 89, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011 at his home.
He was born April 28, 1922 in Oneonta, the son of Walter E. and Florence (VanPatten) Oliver.
Leland married Doris Wood on December 13, 1941.
He was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II from 1942 to 1945.
Leland was employed at Bendix Corp. in Sidney for 33 years.
He was a member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church in Oneonta.
He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Doris; two sons, Thomas and wife, Joan Oliver of Cheektowaga, NY and Michael and wife, Mary Oliver of San Jose, CA; a daughter-in-law, Nancy of Seymour, TN; grandchildren, Col. Stephen Oliver Jr. and his wife Gina stationed in Hawaii, David Oliver of Albany, NY, Matthew Oliver of San Jose, CA, Jeffrey Oliver of Elmira, NY, Bethany Oliver of Corning, NY and Christy Oliver of Cheektowaga, NY; great-grandson, Samuel; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his eldest son, Stephen, a grandson Aaron, two brothers, Harry and Walter; and two sisters, Sarah (Sally) and Rosie.
A funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St. in Oneonta, with the Rev. Olu Harding, pastor of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, officiating.
A calling hour will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the service time.
Interment with Military Honors will be held at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
