Lena E. (Helen) Dibble
ONEONTA – Lena E. (Helen) Dibble, 86, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Countryside Care Center in Delhi.
She was born March 12, 1921 in Delhi Stage, the daughter of Arthur G. and Nellie (Allen) Epps.
Helen and Marshall J. Dibble were married on November 8, 1939. Marshall predeceased her in 2002.
Helen worked at the shipyards in San Francisco as a burner during World War II. Then moved across the country to Groton CT, and worked on the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear powered submarine. After a time she ended up back in the Oneonta area working at the Breese Department store as a baker.
Helen was active in many local originations including the Davenport VFW Ladies Auxiliary, holding several officer positions. She was also a member of the Aldrich Baptist Church and the Oneonta Moose Club.
She is survived by a brother Robert Epps of AZ; a sister-in-law Viola and husband Vern Hiatt of Florida; a brother-in-law Donald and wife Yeska Dibble of South New Berlin and several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Helen's request she was cremated.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Oneonta Moose Lodge, 87 West Broadway, Oneonta. If you wish, please bring a picture, memento or story to share. Refreshments will be served.
