Obituary

ONEONTA – Leonard C. Murphy, Jr. (Pat), 70, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at home with children and family present.

He was born March 19, 1937 in Oneonta, the son of Leonard C. and Katherine Murphy.

Pat was an Oneonta native and graduated from Oneonta High School.

He is survived by his children, Patrick Murphy, Michael and Jo Anne Murphy, and Jennifer Brynn and Tyler Davis; step mother, Lurlene Murphy; siblings, Mae Robertson, Jean Ducket, Sharon Telzerson, Earl (Bill) Murphy, Dennis Murphy, Kenneth Murphy, Timothy Murphy, Deborah McConnell, Marilyn Slawson and a multitude of nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Sean Murphy, Aaron Murphy, Porter Davis, Mason Davis, Ethan Davis, Ellie Davis, Steven Murphy and long time companion, Constance Gunther.

He was predeceased by his brothers, James and Brian Murphy.

Pat was a United States Marine Corps veteran, serving three tours in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Pat was a Judo Instructor. He was employed for over 20 years with the Oneonta Police Department retiring as a Detective Sergeant. He worked as the Head of Security for Oneonta Job Corps and was also a Fraud Investigator for New York Mutual Insurance Company.

Pat lived for over 30 years with cancer and donated his time and experiences to help others in their time of need.

He was active the Marines, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans and Police Benevolent Association.

Pat loved to golf and travel with friends and family, and spent many winters in Puerto Rico. He loved to be outdoors gardening and watching wildlife. He loved to be with friends, listen to music and share a drink over good times.

Pat was a proud Irishman, who was loved by many in our community and who's presence will be truly missed.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2007 from Noon to 3 p.m. at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Dr., Oneonta, NY 13820.
