Maryland – Lillian S. Beams, 79, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2017, after a long illness.
She was born December 4, 1937 in Cobleskill, the daughter of Harley & Evelyn (Coons) Slater.
Lillian graduated from Cobleskill High School.
She married George "Buddy" Beams on November 21, 1971 at the Richmondville United Methodist Church.
Lillian worked in the health industry for 42 years, mostly with Bassett Medical Center. She was instrumental in starting the Southeastern Otsego Health Center in Worcester. She was one of the first employees and worked there as the business manager.
She was a life member of the Schenevus VFW Auxiliary, the C.H. Graham Hose Co. Auxiliary, and the Schenevus AMVETS Auxiliary. Lillian enjoyed calling Bingo at the Schenevus Carnival and the Schenevus VFW, which she did for many years. When she wasn't calling Bingo she was playing. She was an avid sports fan. Her teams were the New York Giants and the New York Yankees. Lillian also enjoyed travelling, camping, entertaining people and cooking. She dearly loved her family, most especially her "Precious" granddaughter, Marisa.
She is survived by her husband, George "Buddy" Beams, of Maryland; son, Michael Kachina; daughter, Lisa Graziano and fiance, Matthew Stuerwald; granddaughter, Marisa and husband, Michael Hancock, all of North Carolina; a mother-in-law, Minnie Beams of Schenevus; many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Virginia Simpson and Audrey Burger; brothers, Carlton and Richard Slater and her sister, Joyce Cary who joined her in Heaven on the same day.
Calling hours will be 1 p.m. to the funeral service time at 2 p.m., on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. The Rev. Judith A. Thistle will be officiating.
Lillian and Joyce's burial and committal service will be shared at Noon, Monday, March 6, 2017 at the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
