Obituary

ONEONTA – Lois J. Russell, 79, of Oneonta, passed away on September 12, 2014 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, with her daughter by her side.

Born January 5, 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island, to Frederick and Grace Brown; she attended Lincoln School in Providence, RI and graduated from Carlton College in Minnesota.

Her career was varied working for the State of New York and ITT Technologies; she was a Personal Manager on two different occasions at the Oneonta Job Corp and lastly as a part-time clerk at the Oneonta Police Department. Before becoming ill, you would always find her on a golf course in her free time or traveling. She was fortunate to take two lifetime dream trips to Ireland and Australia. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Oneonta.

Lois is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Vic) Silvernail of Oneonta, Anne (Ken) Huebel of Brownsburg, IN, Helen (Jim) Bates of Downey, CA; step-children, Bill (Joyce) Russell of Gasport, Jeff (Diane) Russell of Newfane, and Deverette Alexander of Florida; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois is also survived by her sisters, Heddie Neal of East Greenwich, RI and Claire Dustin of Braugh, Queensland, Australia, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Everett Russell; brother, Lawrence Brown; sisters, Sonja Swanson and Joanne Fowler and her parents.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2014 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, at St. James Episcopal Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Kenneth Hunter as celebrant.

Interment will be 2 p.m., Wednesday September 17, Glenwood Cemetery in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Hampshire House, 2 North and 2 South, and the terrific help and caring of the Hospice staff, especially, Tara Gill.
