Obituary

ONEONTA – Louis Bertuzzi died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the age of 96.

He was born in New York City on April 29, 1912, the son of John and Fortunato (Mazzacchi) Bertuzzi.

The family moved to Oneonta when he was very young. He attended the Oneonta School System and graduated High School with the Class of 1932.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre of operations. Louis was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Valor as a member of the 124th Regiment 31st Infantry of the Dixie Division. After the war he was employed by the Division of Military and Naval Affairs at the Oneonta State Armory, retiring after 31 years of service.

On December 29, 1953 Louis married Margaret Rabey of Binghamton. She passed away on February 9, 1985.

He is survived by his loving companion of many years, Veronica Nelson; a sister, Mary Chapadeau of Little Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Sam Bertuzzi of Oneonta; two sisters, Rose Maney of Utica and Julia Allidi of Oneonta.

Louis was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion Post 259, VFW, and the Retired Officers Association.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Clemow, pastor the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, officiating.

Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
