Obituary

East Worcester - Louis Stanley Brooker, Sr. "Lu", 86, died peacefully on January 6, 2013, at his home after a brief illness. His loving wife, Esther was by his side.

He was born on September 23, 1926 in Brooker Hollow, Town of Worcester, NY, the son of Edmond and Angela (Radez) Brooker. He married Esther Mathewson on June 22, 1956.

Lu was a life long resident of the Worcester area, currently residing in East Worcester, NY. He graduated from Worcester Central School in 1944. He spent his early years traveling the area building Harder Silos. Because of his excellent workmanship, Lu was chosen to build a silo for Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He spent many years involved with the truck and heavy equipment industry, whether maintaining, driving or plowing snow for the towns of East Worcester and Worcester and Maryland. For several of those years he was foreman as well as superintendent. He drove tractor trailers for Chemical Lehman and Mathew Brothers. He had extensive knowledge and abilities in auto mechanics, carpentry, plumbing and masonry; remodeling and maintaining his home and vehicles and those of his children.

Lu enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, friends and extended family, often having an annual picnic. He taught his children the love of nature and many basic skills by example. He spent quiet times fishing and reading. He was past member of the East Worcester Hose Company #1 as well as holding a term as Fire Commissioner President; the East Worcester Fish and Game. He was a Committeeman for the Cub Scouts, joining them on overnight camping trips, and a member of the Town Highway Superintendent Association.


Lu is survived by his wife, Esther of East Worcester, NY; son, Louis Jr. (Barbara) Brooker of Toms River, NJ; daughters, Lynn Urrey (Larry Eichler) of East Worcester and Kathleen (Sam) Brooker-Milano of Westford, NY; one sister, Betty (Harry) Schulte; grandchildren, Heather, Lisa, Joseph, Jennifer, Cheri, Audrey, Angela, Jacob, Natalie, Esther, Lydia, and Alissa; 22 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Frieda Austin, and his oldest daughter, Deborah Fogarty.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 pm, Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel, 155 Main St., Worcester, NY. A memorial service will follow at 2 pm with the Rev. Ronald Green, MM and the Rev. Nancy Dulkis, officiating.

Committal service will take place in the East Worcester Cemetery 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013.
