Louise M. Kubis' Obituary
SCHENEVUS – Louise M. Kubis, 93, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Otsego Manor in Cooperstown.
She was born on July 25, 1920 in Casselman, PA, the daughter of Frank C. and Sophia (Yuron) Gorence.
Louise moved to Middlefield, where she graduated from Cooperstown Central School, Class of 1939. She met and married Michael Kubis Jr. on October 24, 1942 in Cooperstown. They owned a dairy farm in Middlefield Township from 1946 to 1955.
She and her husband then owned and operated Mike's Diner in Milford for 30 years. Upon retiring in 1986, she moved to Schenevus to be closer to her daughters and their families.
She was a life member of the Milford American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, and loved to polka. She had a zest for life but her true passion was the love from her family and friends. "Weezie" was loved by all who knew her and will greatly be missed by many.
She is survived by a son, Michael (Phyllis) Kubis of Brick, NJ; two daughters, Carolyn "CB" Muehl of Schenevus and Jackie (Mark) Webster of Schenevus; grandchildren, Mary Jo Leighton, Stephanie Benedetto, Jeffrey (Stacy) Stigliano; Michael (Michelle) Stigliano, John Muehl (Suzanne Mistretta), Amy Muehl (Bernie Velasco), Michael Webster (Randelle McCumber), and James (Tara) Webster; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister-in-law, Marion Gorence; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends, too numerous to mention.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael on November 23, 1994; son-in-law, John "Jack" Muehl; siblings Caroline Schemm, Agnes VanDyke, Gladys Davidson, Alice Gurley, Mary Roberts, Ann Sugarick, Jennie Calhoun, Sophie Gus, Frank Gorence Jr. and Charles Gorence.
Calling hours will be 10 am to 12:30 pm, Saturday December 7, 2013 at the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm with the Rev. Ronald Green, MM, officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Index.
