MARYLAND – Lurlene Betty Murphy, 85, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 at A.O Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born December 1, 1923 in Oneonta, the daughter of Simeon and Mary (Hull) Llewellyn.

She married Leonard Murphy in July 23, 1943 in Scranton, PA. He preceded her in death January 25, 1979.

Betty worked at Jamesway in Oneonta for over 32 years. She also went to many different cities opening new stores and training employees. She retired as the Stock Room manager.

She is survived by her children, Jean Duket of Saratoga, Sharon Telezrow of Las Vegas, NV, Earl William (Bill) Murphy of Baltimore, MD, Dennis Murphy of Watervliet, Kenneth Murphy of Florida, Timothy Murphy of Oneonta, Deborah McConnell of Wendover, NV, Marilyn Slawson of Greene; 28 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews

She was predeceased three sons, Brian, Jimmy and Leonard Jr; two brothers, Benjamin and Earl Llewellyn; three sisters, Ida Turp, Pauline Wightman and Ethel Schulze.

Calling will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.

A funeral service will be held Noon, Thursday, May 7th at the funeral home, with the Rev. Teressa Sivers, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
