Lynda Lee Van Woert Hamilton, 66, of Oneonta (formerly of Tupper Lake) passed away Thursday evening, February 8, 2007 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Lynda was born December 11, 1940, in Hempstead, NY, the daughter of James D. and Esther S. Van Woert. She was a 1958 graduate of Oneonta High School. She received a B.S. in Music Education from Hartwick College in 1963, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and was involved in many musical activities.

She received a certificate as a teacher of music in 1963, and taught in Massachusetts, Albany and Tupper Lake, NY. She was a Home Health Aide in the late 1970's. After moving back to Oneonta in the 1980s, she secured a job with Verizon. She later retired from Verizon in 1998 after 10 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Lynda enjoyed spending time with friends, knitting and writing, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter, Cynthia Hamilton of Manchester, CT and her son, Clayton Hamilton of Otego, NY; her brother, James Winston and his wife, Sandra Van Woert of Harpursville; her grandchildren, Cassandra and David Hamilton of Ray Brook, NY; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many good friends.

Lynda was predeceased by her parents, James D. and Esther S. Van Woert, and her daughter, Catherine W. Hamilton.

There will be no viewing or funeral. Family will receive relatives and friends at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz Street, Oneonta from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 17, 2007.

Burial will be private.
