ONEONTA – Madelyn D. Pirone, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Hampshire House Adult Home in Oneonta.
She was born December 6, 1916 in Newburgh, the daughter of Miles and Mary (George) Dales.
Mrs. Pirone worked in retail for Grant's and Bresee's Department Stores and Liggett's Drug Store. She had a long career with Bendix in Sidney from which she retired.
She was very active in the local arts movement with creative writing and dramatics. Mrs. Pirone published a number of short works and poetry. She was the president of the Leatherstocking Players in 1950. She loved dogs, traveling, crossword puzzles, big band music and old movies.
She is survived by two children, Constance Gresser of Brookline, MA and William and his wife, Rose Anne Pirone of Oneonta; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janet Powell of Syracuse and Constance Galloway of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Roger Dales.
In respect of her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
