Born Bessie Marcella Roy in Sussex County, NJ on October 12, 1925, daughter of Josephine and Insley Roy, Marcella R. Wiggin died on March 18, 2009 in Oneonta, NY.
She graduated from Newton High School in Newton, NJ in 1942 and attended Russell Sage College in Troy, NY. She was an administrative assistant for the Sussex County Extension Service.
She married Stan Wiggin in 1954 and helped him raise his 4 children, enabling that family to stay together. As with many homemakers of that time, she held several jobs from time to time including administrative assistant at the Frankford Township Elementary School, assistant postmaster in Pattenburg, NJ, editor for the New Jersey Holstein-Friesian News, and full working partner for the Independent Mating Service founded by her husband.
She is survived by her brothers, David and wife, Jean, Roy of Cherry Valley, NY, John and wife, Julia, Roy of Chambersburg, PA, and sister-in-law, Diane Roy of York Springs, PA; step-children, Karen and husband, James, O'Neil of Prescott, AZ, Ellen Wiggin of Brownfield, ME, Howard Wiggin and wife, Nancy, of Warriors Mark, PA, and Sal Wiggin and husband, Allen Simoneau, of Fairfax, VT; grandchildren, Andrew Cizmar, Joseph Cizmar, Margaret (Wiggin) Inglis, Brent Simoneau, James Wiggin, and Barbara Simoneau; and great grandchildren, Brent O'Meara, Erika Cizmar, Margaret Cizmar, Catherine Inglis, Grace Cizmar, and Amelia Inglis; as well as nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews which she enjoyed so much.
She was active in the church community wherever she lived including Tranquility Methodist Church in Allamuchy, NJ, Frankford Plains Methodist Church in Augusta, NJ, Pattenburg, NJ Methodist Church, Orange, PA United Methodist Church , and the Second Baptist Church of Worcester, NY where she served as treasurer for many years. She sang in various choirs, served as a member of the Worcester, New York Town Library Board of Directors, and was active in Grange. She loved to cook and shared her gifts that delighted all who knew her.
In their retirement, she and Stan enjoyed many trips with friends to the United States, Canada, and Europe. She and Stan also visited and ran errands for elderly relatives and friends. Perhaps she is best known for keeping in touch by hand written notes and cards with family, friends, and neighbors she knew from the many places she lived throughout her life. She never forgot a friend.
