WORCESTER – Margaret "Peggy" A. Coombs, 79, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
She was born February 17, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of John and Florence (Spillane) Markey.
Peggy married Gerald V. Coombs on February 13, 1954. He predeceased her on June 10, 2010.
Peggy and Jerry moved their family to Worcester in 1971.
Peggy was a Bell Telephone switchboard operator in Philadelphia for several years. She then worked in several clerical positions throughout the years, as she chose to mostly stay home and raise her family.
She was a member of the Worcester American Legion Auxiliary, the Worcester Hose Co. Ladies Auxiliary, the Worcester Emergency Squad, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Alter Rosary Society.
She is survived by her children, Peggy and Joe Nelson III of Worcester, Bill and Melissa Coombs of Florida, Kathy and Tim McTaggart of Worcester and Jerry Coombs Jr. of Worcester; grandchildren, Chris and Kim Coombs, Josh and Jen Coombs, Kimberly and Bryan Tremblay, Shannon and Joe Hunt, Amanda Nelson, Joseph Nelson IV, Sean McTaggart; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Hunter, Addyson, Cadence, Carter; several cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members, including, Linda Rae, Bobbi Markey, Arron, Kimberley, Craig, Karen, Tyler, Grant, Kurt and Katie.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Kitchen and Patricia Markey and a brother, John Markey.
Calling hours will be held at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 155 Main St. in Worcester on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 11 a.m. to the Funeral Service at Noon, with the Rev. Judith Thistle, officiating.
The committal service will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Worcester, with the Rev. Ronald Green, MM.
