LAURENS – Margaret C. Kuhn, 98 passed away peacefully April 20, 2017 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
She was born September 19, 1918 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of Harry J. and Nancy E. (Rugh) Casper.
Margaret graduated from Gettysburg College in 1940.
She married Walter R. "Todd" Kuhn on June 17, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA. He predeceased her on October 6, 1995.
Margaret was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Laurens. She was involved in many community organizations. She volunteered at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta for over 20 years and the Ambrose V. Powell Memorial Library in Laurens for many years.
She is survived by her grandson, Walter V. Kuhn of Haymarket, VA and his fiancée Colleen, her great-grandchildren Daniel, Gregory, Allison, her niece Amy, nephew Brad and his wife Kay with their children Colton, Carly and Brody of Paradise Valley, AZ, and daughter-in-law Dawn and her husband Tom of Laurens, NY.
Her son, W.C. Kuhn predeceased her on October 21, 2011.
A graveside service will be held May 12th at 10:30 am at the Laurens Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Messner pastor at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made out to Gettysburg College with the Jane Jacobs Scholarship Fund - Margaret Kuhn '40 in the memo line mailed to Development Office, Gettysburg College, Box 423 Gettysburg, PA 17325. The Jane Jacobs Scholarship Fund is awarded with preference to female students majoring in biology, environmental studies, or other sciences as Margaret Kuhn was the first female to receive Bachelors of Arts in Biology in 1940 from Gettysburg College.
