ONEONTA – Margaret (Peg) Stiefel, died Thursday, February 5, 2015.

She was born June 4, 1929 in Oneonta, the daughter of Raymond and Margaret (Weatherly) Jordan. She was raised by her beloved grandparents, George and Nellie Weatherly of Morris.

Mrs. Stiefel married Donald R. Stiefel on September 19, 1946 in Zion Episcopal Church in Morris. They recently celebrated their 68th anniversary.

She was a long-time member of St. James Episcopal Church of Oneonta and had been active in many church functions, especially the church choir in her earlier years.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; one son and daughter-in-law, LeRoy and Bett Stiefel of Zephyrhills, FL; three daughters and son-in-laws, Margaret and Frank Garwatoski of Canton, GA, Robin and Steve Hughes of Gilbertsville, and Donna and LeGrande Young of West Laurens; seven grandchildren, Michael and Roy Stiefel, Mark and Rebecca Garwatoski, Sean and Kimberly McCoy, and Jason Young. Also surviving are ten great-grandchildren.

A requiem mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at St. James Episcopal Church, 305 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Kenneth Hunter, officiating. Mrs. Stiefel was cremated and will be placed in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends in the Great Hall of the church at a luncheon immediately following the service.
