SCHENEVUS - Marian D Hanson passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.
Marian Lena Dragoo was born to Ray & Mattie (Nies) Dragoo in Lodgepole, SD on September 14, 1918. The family moved to Couer d'Alene, ID before coming to New York in 1921. After a short time in Brownsville, TX in 1926 they settled on South Hill Schenevus in 1927.
On August 2, 1940 she was married to Arnold M Hanson of Franklin. They shared 36 years together until his passing on October 25, 1976.
She was a 1936 graduate of Schenevus High School and Syracuse Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed at the Parshall Hospital first and 15 years at A.O. Fox Hospital. She was also employed at Central Markets in addition to being an active farm wife and raising a family.
She loved to travel and visited all 50 states and the Netherlands. Over her lifetime she cared for and helped many people. She enjoyed her garden and canning along with cooking and baking. We will always remember her fondness for cherry pie.
She was a member of the Schenevus United Methodist Church and a charter member of the C.H. Graham Hose Co. Auxiliary and a former ground observer. She was a longtime Grange member and also a member of the Wioantha Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by her children, Russell (Ramona) Hanson of Wells Bridge, Victor (Donna) of Schenevus, Carol (Jerry) Dufresne of Schenevus; a brother-in-law, Julian Hanson of Maryland. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, daughter, Ruth Holling, siblings, Russell Dragoo, Paul Dragoo and Ruth McAuliffe, grandsons, Russell Hanson Jr. and James Hanson.
Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 22 at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus (Not from 2 to 4 p.m. as stated in Friday's paper)
The funeral service will be Noon Monday, April 23 at the Schenevus United Methodist Church with Pastor Larry Russell, officiating and with Rev. Judith Thistle, assisting. Burial will be in the Schenevus Cemetery following the service.
