ONEONTA – Marion B. Jones, 89, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
She was born January 19, 1920 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Frederick and Bertha (Funke) Burkardt.
She married William E. Jones in Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Richmond Hill in May, 1941. He died March 29, 1991.
She was a 1937 graduate of Girls' Commercial High School in Brooklyn. Mrs. Jones was employed by AT&T in Manhattan. She lived in Valley Stream from 1952 to 1973 when she moved to Oneonta.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, William F. (Susan C.) Jones, Kenneth A. (Andrea S.) Jones, David M. (Kathleen L.) Jones, and Raymond P. (Nora V.) Jones; nine grandchildren, William Jr.(Marissa) and Stacey Jones, Marissa (Zane) Goff and Amanda Jones, Joshua (Amanda Moore), Timothy and Ryan Jones, Heather (Kris) Kendrick and Joseph (Katie) Jones; six great grandchildren, Olivia and Liam Jones, Delano Goff, Shiloh Jones, Aiden and Sean Kendrick; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Homann; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and a very dear, special friend, Mrs. Victoria (Thomas) Wacek.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Judith Marion Jones; 3 sisters, Marie Burkardt, Ethel McLaughlin, and her husband, Joseph, and Florence Bores and her husband, Charles; and a brother-in-law, Richard Homann.
Mrs. Jones was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Oneonta, and of the Rosary Society and Treasurer of the Alter Guild. She was the coordinator of Meals-on-Wheels for over twenty years. She was also a member and the treasurer for AARP, Chapter 3099.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2009 in St. Mary's Catholic Church Parish Center, Walnut Street, Oneonta, with the Rev. John Burns, pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morris, as celebrant.
Interment will follow at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
