Obituary

ONEONTA – Martin S. Donlin, 85, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2006 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born April 21, 1921 in Oneonta, the son of Martin S. and Catherine (Henning) Donlin.

Martin was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during World War II and obtaining the rank of Motor Machinist's Mate 3rd Class. He participated in the pacific theatre, during the assault of Okinawa Gunto, the initial occupation of Japan on September 12, 1945 at Tokyo Bay and landings at Tsurumi Kawa, Yokohama. He also crossed the International Date Line at 180 degree Meridian, February 8, 1945, at Latitude 12 degree 25' N.

He married Marjorie Bugbee at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta in 1948

Martin was employed at Bendix in Sidney for 38 years, retiring in December of 1982 from the Layout Department of the Engine Products Division.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta, and was an avid reader and loved going walking.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie I. Donlin of Oneonta; children, Martin E. and his wife, Gail Donlin of Jericho, VT, Robert F. Donlin and his companion, Janice Longtin of Otego, Richard A. and his wife, Vickie M. Donlin of Cleveland, TN, Thomas E. Donlin of Jacksonville, FL, and Joyce M. and her husband, John Mikolaicyk of Oneonta; 13 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, George Donlin of Oneonta; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, John Donlin and a sister, Catherine Eldred.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta, with the Reverend Victor Owan, associate pastor as celebrant.

Interment with military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

There will no be calling hours at the request of the family.
