EAST MEREDITH – Mary Ghianda, 91, of East Meredith passed away peacefully on September 10, 2013 with her loving family at her bedside.
Mary was born January 1, 1922 in Bari, Italy, the first child of John and Domenica Gerolamo. Mary immigrated to America in 1927 at the age of five years old. Mary graduated from Evander Childs High School in the Bronx.
She married Silvio Ghianda on October 28, 1945 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the Bronx.
Mary worked as a Millne (hat maker) for Lord and Taylor in New York City. She also worked for 25 years as a Bank Manager for American Savings Bank. Shortly after retiring, Mary moved to Jupiter, Florida and later settling in East Meredith in her final years.
She is survived by a daughter, Elena Jill-Doyle, and grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) Bezdany and great-granddaughters, Holly and Kaylee, Matthew (Maria) Jill, Brendan Jill and Jennifer Jill; a son, Robert Ghianda; a daughter, Darlene (Jack) Weber, grandchildren, Matthew, Marisa and Michael Weber; a son, Ronnie Ghianda, and grandchildren, Ryan, Emily and Jason and great-granddaughter, Mila.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Silvio Ghianda; a brother, Samuel Gerolamo; a son, Pasqual Frank Ghianda; and a grandson, Andrew Jill.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home.
