ONEONTA – Mary Jane LaLonde, 99, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Chestnut Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Oneonta.
She was born February 25, 1914 in Walland Ontario, Canada, the daughter of William and Mary (Jackson) LaLonde.
She lived in the United States of America until 1921. Then she went to England. In 1934 she went to Belgium, and worked as a Nanny for four years.
Mary served four and a half years in the British Army as a Lance Corporal, from 1941 to 1945. She came back to the United States in 1946.
Mary married Francis Jock in 1947. They divorced in 1955 and he died in 1989.
For twenty years Mary worked as a housekeeper in Stamford to the Judge and Mrs. Elias Jacobs. March of 1982 she came to live in Oneonta, and continued working as a housekeeper for various families.
She enjoyed riding and visiting with people in the OPT. She also enjoyed knitting, cooking and loved to spend time with her family.
She is survived by her sisters, Lillian and husband, Richard Gorence of Oneonta, Dora and husband, Ted Eighmie of Glenville, Dorothy and husband, Jim Cohn of Oneonta; and
nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews
She was predeceased her sister, Josephine Godfrey
There will be no calling hours.
The Funeral service will be Noon Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Ronald Green, MM, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Stamford.
Donations may be made to the Chestnut Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 330 Chestnut St., Oneonta.
