Mattie Margaret Parker Schrom Barton
She lost her fight to Cancer on February 28, 2010 at her home in Myrtle Creek, Oregon with her loving family at her side.
Born July 21,1932 in Cumberland City,Stewart Co., Tennessee, to Floyd Edward Parker and Lola Lee Foster Parker Clark the youngest of 7 children.
She met Harvey Schrom while he was stationed in the service nearby. They were married on October 14,1946 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He predeceased her on July 27, 1960. She married Burton Barton Sr. on November 10, 1963. He predeceased her in November, 1976. She lived for many years in Pleasant Brook, New York before moving to Oregon.
She is survived by her children, Gloria Jean Munson (John) of Worcester, N.Y., Harvey Schrom (Lynda) of Glendale, Oregon, Golda Mae Duncan of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, Johanna VanDenBurg of Maryland, N.Y., Mary Evelyn Loehr (Anthony) of Maryland, N.Y., Bridget Ann DeGruchy of Worcester, N.Y., Burton Barton Jr. of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, Elaine Gaylor (James) of Myrtle Creek, Oregon. She is also survived by her sisters in Tennessee, Mary Evelyn Christiansen, Louise Waller, and Emma Jean Cunningham. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren and their spouses, and 47 great grandchildren. Sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Tripp, Rosana Schrom, and Edna Schrom in New York and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husbands, two daughters, Lola Lee Mould (David) of Westford, N.Y. and Freda Marie Koncelik of Worcester, N.Y. One granddaughter, Laurie Williams (Richard) Kansas and 2 great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by three brothers, George W. Parker, Orman Parker, and James Parker of Tennessee.
Margaret (Margie) will be sorely missed by all who knew her, especially her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She spent many hours Crocheting and Knitting, numerous items for family members and friends, including Intricate afghans, tablecloths, bed spreads, sweaters etc. They are now cherished memories of her love for each of them. Many enjoyed her Southern Fried Chicken, Baking Powder Biscuits, and Lemon Meringue Pie. Everyone was always welcome at her table, there was always room for one more. She was proud of her family and enjoyed all the time spent with them. She especially enjoyed her garden, which seems to grow by leaps and bounds; she even has some of the neighbor's plants jumping the fence to be a part of her garden. She enjoyed Country & Western Music and used to go and listen to her husband, Harvey and his brothers band "The Melody Boys" at The Time Out Bar in Worcester, New York every Saturday Night.
A memorial service will be held in her memory Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 3 pm at the Schenevus United Methodist Church, 66 Main St., Schenevus, N.Y.
