Otego - Maureen Loretta Angilletta, 67, passed away peacefully at home, on June 5, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born October 1, 1956 in Bay Shore, the daughter of Adelbert "Del" Hewitt and Grace Mary (McDonald) Smith.
Maureen married Umberto Angilletta on September 15, 1985. Together they built their life in Otego with their two children, Gina and Umberto Jr.
Maureen dedicated her life to her family, staying home to raise her kids. She enjoyed and took pride in caring for her home and loved tending to her beautiful gardens.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Her strong faith in God brought her incredible strength and comfort during her illness. Prior to her illness, she volunteered at St. Mary's food pantry and Saturday's Bread.
She is survived by her husband, Umberto "Bob" Angilletta; her children, Gina (Nick) Grimes of Arlington, VT and Umberto Angilletta Jr. of Buffalo, NY; grandchildren, Nico and Scarlett Grimes; her sister, Eileen (Patrick) Passaretti; the extended Smith, McDonald and Angilletta families; special friends Karen Mirabito, Cathy Grimes, and many others.
She was predeceased by her mother, Grace Mary Smith; her father, Adelbert Smith; stepmother, Harriet Smith; and uncle, Thomas McDonald.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Bassett Cancer Center, and Women's Cancer Care Associates for their support and treatment; Maddie and Morgan Parish, and Helios Care for their care and support during Maureen's final weeks.
At the request of Maureen, there will be no calling hours.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Christopher Welch as the celebrant.
The interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Oneonta.
