Oneonta - Maureen Agnes Gallagher, 63, a life-long resident of Oneonta, died on Thursday, November 17, 2016 after an extended illness.

She was born May 10, 1953 at Fox Hospital in Oneonta, the daughter of John J. and Catherine M. Gallagher.

Maureen was a graduate of Bugbee School, having attended from Junior Kindergarten through ninth grade. She was proud to be a "Bugbee Brat". Maureen graduated from Oneonta High School with honors in 1971. She graduated with a bachelor's degree majoring in mathematics from William Smith College in 1975 and received her master's degree in mathematics from SUNY Oneonta. She was a mathematics professor for 22 years at Hartwick College.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a past board member of Catholic Charities and volunteered at St. Mary's food bank.

Maureen is survived by her mother, Catherine M. Gallagher of Oneonta; her brother, Dr. John W. Gallagher and his wife, Barbara, of Plattsburgh; and her sister, Jean E. and her husband, Robert B. Hobkirk, of Oneonta; her nieces and nephews, Sean M. (Paula) Gallagher of Baltimore, MD, Catherine L. Hobkirk (Andrew Hathaway) of Oneonta, Cara J. (Kenneth) Mussaw of Otego, and Robert W. (Ashu) Hobkirk of Phoenix, AZ.

She was predeceased by her father, John J. Gallagher in 2000 and her nephew, Patrick J. Gallagher in 2012.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, November 20, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

A funeral mass will be 10:15 a.m., Monday, November 21, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Maureen's name to Oneonta Dollars for Scholars, PO Box 1083, Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 E. Main St., Sidney, NY 13838.
