Obituary

WORCESTER – Melvin R. Force, 84, passed away at home on October 13, 2019.

He was born September 21, 1935 in High Bridge, NJ, the son of Edgar and Elsie (Young) Force.

Mel moved to Worcester from New Jersey in 1964. While in New Jersey he was a member of a Country & Western Band and also played in a band in New York for a while.

Mel was a machinist for Corning Glass Works in Oneonta. He was a member of Worcester Grange, on the Board of Trustees for the Maple Grove Cemetery, and an active volunteer at the Worcester Food Pantry. He owned several antique cars, a hobby he very much enjoyed.

He is survived by Gerry Roe of Worcester. Although Mel had no children of his own, he was a very good father figure to Gerry's children and dearly loved them all, Autumn and Jared, Cindy and Donald, Chrissy and Craig, Becky, JR and Mercedes.  The 7 grandchildren held a special place in his heart.

Mel is predeceased by his brother, Edgar Force and a sister, Harriet Force.

Calling hours will be from Noon to the start of the funeral at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester. The Rev. Paul Messner will be officiating.

Interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Worcester Food Pantry c/o Gerry Roe, 17 Water St., Worcester, NY 12197.
