Obituary

MARYLAND – Michael L. Bascomb, 69, passed away comfortably at home on September 28, 2025.

He was born December 11, 1955 in Bermuda, the son of Harold and Marion (Rickard) Bascomb. Michael grew up in a large family in Cobleskill.

He was a United States Navy veteran, serving from 1974 to 1994.  He served in the Persian Gulf War.  He spent the majority of his military career out at sea.  He taught firefighting at the Mass Maritime Academy as well as in Reserves.  He obtained the rank of Machinist Mate.

Michael then started working at General Electric in Schenectady retiring as a HVAC Maintenance Tech.

He was an avid outdoors man, enjoying hunting and ice fishing, and played golf as much as he was able to, every day in retirement.

He was a member of the Cobleskill Country Club and a life member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn (Manchester) Bascomb, whom he married on May 27, 2023; his son, James Bascomb and wife, Danielle Ferguson; daughter-in-law, Barbara Bascomb; grandchildren, Lauren J. Bascomb, Ronan M.D. Bascomb, Lily Ann Bascomb, Ellelouise Pearl Bascomb Rice, Isabella Bascomb and Alex Diomandes; children, Nicole Strobeck, Stacey Dugger, Chris Spano, Bill Spano; grandchildren, Tylor, Ayla, Miah, Bryn, Zane, Kane, Stacey, Allie and Madison Dugger, Ashlynne and Hayleigh Strobeck; great grandchildren, Sawyer Spano and Mia Stefanacci; his siblings, Paul Bascomb, Kathleen Moore (Michael), Connie Elsensohn, Colleen Benson; many nieces and nephews; and JoAnn's daughter's, Phyllis Marie Snyder and Denise Nicole Snyder, and grandchildren, Martin and Jazmin Tracy.

He was predeceased by his parents; first wife, Bobbi Bascomb; children, Lacy and Tony Bascomb; siblings, Robert, Louis, and Richard Bascomb; and JoAnn's daughter, Cheryl Lynn Snyder.

A celebration of life will be held, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at the Eagles Club at 159 Legion Dr., Cobleskill, NY 12043.  Military honors will be held at 12:30 p.m.
