Obituary

ONEONTA – Michael Cimko, 83, died Thursday, August 2, 2007 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born April 8, 1924 in Colonie, the son of Michael and Efroska (Karpiak) Cimko.

Mike was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II from 1943 to 1946.

He married Harriet Vroman on July 21, 1946 at St. James Episcopal Church in Oneonta.

Mike was a car repairman for the D&H Railroad, Oneonta, for 30 years.

He was an Oneonta High School graduate and was a member of the 6th Ward Athletic Club, the Oneonta Moose Club and St. James Episcopal Church, where he served as an Alter Guild.

Mike was an avid fisherman and New York Yankees Fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and especially enjoyed being a spectator at their sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet Cimko of Oneonta; two daughters, Vicki and Carmen Vagliardo of Oneonta and Debbie and Carl Norton of Maryland; a grandson, Michael and Inez Vagliardo; a granddaughter, Michele Norton-Ruth; great-grandchildren, Casey Hutzel, Noah and Dalton Sheehan and Logan Ruth; two brothers, William and Gloria Cimko, Stephen and Anna Banias; a brother-in-law, James and Nita Vroman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, John Cimko and a sister, Libby Moosick.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 6, 2007 at St. James Episcopal Church in Oneonta, with the Rev. Kenneth Hunter, pastor, officiating.

A private interment with military honors will take place at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at a later date.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oneonta Dollars for Scholars, PO Box 1083, Oneonta, or to the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, 162 County Highway 58, Oneonta, NY 13820.
