RICHMONDVILLE - On Monday, May 24, 2021, Michael Mauro of Richmondville, passed away in the comfort of his home. He was 84.

Michael was born on March 31, 1937, in Brooklyn, to Michael and Mary (Alberti) Mauro.

He served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps.

On August 17, 1964, he married Arlene Escoffery. He was also a father to six children, Debra, Al, Gina, Michael, Christine, and Marie.

Michael was a man of faith who loved Jesus. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and as such typically sported one of the many fishing hats he collected across his years. However, his greatest love was his family. He especially loved being a "Pop" to his grandchildren, Anthony, Michael, Nikki, Krysta, Krystal, AJ, Richard, Stacey, Jay, Frank, Anthony, Elyse, Anthony, and Emma; as well as a "Great-Pop" to his great-grandchildren, Katiri, Maliyah, Lucias, Airadessa, Clayton, and his many others.

Michael will be remembered for his unique combination of a heart-warming laugh and intimidating stature. His strong, callous hands always felt as though they were meant for hugs. He had an innate ability to love as hard as he worked.

Family and friends are invited for a period of visitation to be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street, Worcester.  A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Messner officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at The Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.  Face coverings and social distancing will be respected by all.

Memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Michael to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
